Bernard de Combret, president of the oil-company Elf, has announced in Paris today that, like Renault, Elf will also leave Formula One. Elf will quit a year before Renault: at the end of this season.

Elf has been present in Formula One for 29 years.

Ferrari Tests

A three day test program started today for the Ferrari team on the rebuild Maranello (Italy) track. Michael Schumacher already shook down the two race cars for the French Grand Prix yesterday. Irvine and Schumacher couldn't start their tests until weather had improved late in the afternoon. They both had new clutch parts installed on their cars to improve the performance and the starts. The new solutions were much to the satisfaction of both drivers. They also tried out new set-ups with the new high nose.

Minardi

Ferrari has denied that Minardi could use their V12 engines of last year. Minardi had already driven with Ferrari engines in 1991 and was hoping for to use them again to improve on their current situation.
