Ferrari will debut their all new Formula 1 car this weekend at the German Grand Prix. The new car, described as the F133 in one report and as the Maranello 550 in another, sports a high nose similar to it's predeccesor, the Ferrari F310. The troublesome F310 had not finished a Grand Prix since the Spainish Grand Prix this year.
Damon Hill's spin on lap 26 of the British Grand Prix was not caused by driver error, or wheel bearing failure as first thought. Williams have indicated that the left front wheelnut had loosened and that the locating pegs sheared off as he braked for the Copse corner.
Benetton have announced their attention to reclaim their lost form when Gerhard Berger set fastest time of the day at the Hockenheim circuit. Mercedes Benz also impressed in front of their home crowd, with the McLarens posting excellent times. Mika Hakkinen was fastest in the first session overall, and David Coulthard recorded the second fastest time of the day in the afternoon.
Things did not go so well for Williams-Renault or Ferrari, with Damon Hill only managing to set the 9th fastest time of the day and Jacques Villeneuve down in 11th. Eddie Irvine was in stunning form managing to set 3rd fastest time, while his World Champion team mate, Michael Schumacher, only managed to set the 7th fastest time.
