Martin Brundle may return to Formula One with the Sauber team. Team boss Peter Sauber was not too pleased about the results of the new driver Norberto Fontana. He may be replaced by Martin Brundle, who already said when the Prost seat got vacant that he would like to drive Formula One again.

The name of Gerhard Berger is also mentioned. Sauber would love to sign him for next season but it would be even better if he could make the switch now.

Damon Hill is a much-talked about driver nowadays. Some reports stated last week that he would go to Prost before the British Grand Prix. There have also been some talks about him signing with Sauber but Arrows boss Tom Walkinshaw strongly denied all the rumours.

• Arrows

  Diniz tested a revised Spec D Yamaha engine and a new gearbox. He said he was happy with the performance improvement. Hill performed a tyre test with the spec C engine.

• Benetton

  Wurz tested a new gearbox while Alesi concentrated on the set-up for the British Grand Prix.

• Ferrari

  The team was very happy with the way thing are going. They did have a tyre problem but Schumacher stated: "We ran only once here (this year), and we have been 1.6sec quicker today. The new front wing works well despite slight oversteer in the fast curves."

• Jordan

  Both drivers worked on the set-up and the active differential. The brake balance was also improved.

• McLaren

  Both drivers worked on the set-up to improve handling of the car in the high speed corners.

• Minardi

  Marques has some problems getting used to his new car. He was unable to do much testing work because he crashed his Minardi on Wednesday.

• Prost

  Both drivers worked on the set-up and tested the new Mugen engine which was used during the last Grand Prix at Magny-Cours.

• Sauber

  Herbert worked on the set-up and did some tyre testing. He said "We are now back to normal. Traction is not a problem as it was at Magny-Cours and the car is very good in the fast corners."

• Stewart

  Suffered some technical problems. This testing session didn't go very well for the team.

• Tyrrell

  Worked on the set-up. Salo tested the new 1998 car on Friday. He said: "It was more difficult than I expected. The car was very hard to drive." He added that it was too early to have say anything about the 1998 rules."
