David Coulthard is, after last Sunday's win, confident for his championship chances. He stated: "I know I am capable of beating Michael when I am driving to my best, but from my past form I have shown that I am less consistent than him. The goal in my career is to make myself as consistent as he is and, if I am able to do that I can beat him."

He also added: "It's good to get a win under the belt in the first part of the European season. It's important for the championship. Mika and I are closer and the focus will be even more on both of us. If Mika had built a gap it would have been only right that the team focus on one guy."

The Stewart team had much to tink about after another bad performance. The rumour was that Jos Verstappen would replace Jan Magnussen. Paul Stewart stated: "We have spoken to Verstappen and we have made contact but no more than that at this stage. It is not true that he has been to the factory or had a seat fitting. We are all very disappointed with our performances and results so far and we are working as hard as we can in every area to improve things. In Formula One things can happen very quickly and it might be that we make some changes."
