One week before the Nurburgring is to host the Luxemburg Grand Prix, a German Touring Cars driver was killed in a crash at the old Nurburgring Nordschleif circuit, earlier today.

Wolfgang Scholz lost control of his racing car and crashed at the Breidscheid section of the circuit. He was then rushed with an ambulance, only to die of his injuries while being prepared for a helicopter ride to the hospital.

The FIA is said to have scheduled a meeting involving both the FIA and track officials concerning the lack of safety of the track, although the part of the track where Scholz was killed today is not used for the Formula One Grands Prix.
