Reported from Kyalami by Michele Lupini, for Atlas F1

Alex Zanardi's shunt at Kyalami this afternoon has had implications in that his Winfield Williams will not be ready for tomorrow due to some parts not being available in South Africa. Zanardi, who went off late in the afternoon, apparently chasing a quick time, will sit out tomorrow's session.

According to a Williams source, "A lot of progress was made today but unfortunately at the end of the day Alex Zanardi went off the circuit and the FW21 was damaged. Due to various small parts being damaged earlier at the test, there is now a shortage of parts, so Alex will not be able to run tomorrow. As long as communications between South Africa and England work well he will be back on the track on Tuesday morning."

Zanardi nonetheless ended the session in a strong second behind team mate, Ralf Schumacher, although the BAR team had a troubled day, with continuous transmission woes. Jacques Villeneuve was expected to leave Kyalami today, but there are indications that he may stay on an extra day on Monday in order to make up for time lost today.
