Reported from Kyalami by Michele Lupini, for Atlas F1

Winfield Williams techinical supremo, Patrick Head, disclosed this morning, during an SABC TV interview, that a Souht Hafrican Grand Prix might be added to the 1999 season caledar.

When asked about the reasons for the team coming to all the way AA Kyalami to test, Head responded, "Apart from the fact that Kyalami offers similar conditions to upcoming grands Prix in Australia and Brazil, there exists a strong possibility of a Grand Prix at Kyalami this year"

There has been much speculation of late about why Kyalami has not been given a GP date this year, especially given the 1999 F1 calendar suffering losses of other races and reserves. AA Kyalmi is inspected, approved and ready for F1, with only additional spectator facilities now required to handle what would clearly be a mammoth crowd. Close to 60,000 people have paid to see only three cars test in two days. With the entire field here to race, F1-mad South Africa is certain to turn out en masse to support their heroes.

What's more, Kyalami has a sponsor in place, waiting for a date to be confirmed, in the form of local cellular giant, Vodacom.

Yet, in spite of all this, Kyalami still has no word on the possibility of a date. Thus far, Patrick Head's comments this morning are the only suggestion yet, that a Grand Prix at sunny South Africa's Kyalami is indeed a possibility.
