Investigations into Mika Hakkinen's blown tyre during the German Grand Prix now suggest that it may have been caused by the McLaren's rear wing, which might have sliced into the tyre. However, Bridgestone and McLaren are far from reaching a final conclusion on why the team suffered two tyre blow-outs in one weekend, while no other team has had the same problem.

In the first occasion, David Coulthard's rear tyre has blown during qualifying. Investigation into the leftovers of the rubber revealed, according to an official Bridgestone statement, a severe cut of unexplained nature.

Investigations on both events is currently taking place, and a Bridgestone statement from earlier today said: "Our engineers, in conjunction with their counterparts from McLaren, are examining videos and physical evidence from the scene. Until these investigations are complete, it would be unwise to speculate on the cause of the incident."
