Testing at Monza - Second Day

Thursday September 2nd, 1999

Stewart-Ford driver, Johnny Herbert, ended a surprising fastest on the second day of testing at the Monza track. The Briton was some three tenth of a second faster than Championship leader, Mika Hakkinen, and 1.7 seconds faster than teammate Rubens Barrichello, who had a problem with the rear wing end plate caused by vibration and ran only 32 laps.

All teams concentrated on set-up testing for the upcoming Italian Grand Prix, with Ferrari driver Mika Salo running a full race distance in the afternoon as simulation. The Finn ended up doing a record 127 laps of testing in one day - the most laps done by one driver on one day in this season.

Many cars spun today on the track, and due to many "red flags" that interrupted today's test, its end was delayed to 6:45 PM. Testing at Monza will resume tomorrow.
