Barrichello Thinks He's Ferrari's Future

Friday December 15th, 2000

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello believes his time with Ferrari will come after World Champion Michael Schumacher leaves the Italian team.

Barrichello, who finished fourth in last season's championship after achieving the first win of his career at the German Grand Prix, joined Ferrari in 2000, and during most part of the year he lived under his teammate and team leader's shadow.

But the 26-year old Brazilian believes the future with Ferrari belongs to him.

"I'm a happy person at Ferrari," Barrichello told Autosport during this week's testing at the Valencia circuit.

"My contract finishes at the end of 2001 with an option for 2002. We are not talking yet, but we had a wonderful season together and they [Ferrari] said that I have done more than they expected of me.

"I feel like Michael is the present and I am the future."
