Prost Still Undecided About Second Driver

Friday December 15th, 2000

Prost Grand Prix boss Alain Prost is still undecided about who will fill the second seat alongside Frenchman Jean Alesi next season.

The French outfit has been testing new drivers at this week's testing session at the Barcelona circuit, and apparently Brazilian Enrique Bernoldi is the favourite to get the drive for 2001.

22 year-old Bernoldi, who finished in fifteenth position in last season's F3000 Championship, tested with Prost last Wednesday, being only three tenths of a second slower than veteran Alesi.

"Obviously we are aiming for someone fast but the decision has some sort of marketing strategy and objectives in it as well," said Prost. "That doesn't mean we will be taking a driver just because he is bringing money."

Spanish CART driver Oriol Servia also tested for the team on Thursday, making his Formula One debut and ending the session more than two seconds off Alesi's pace.

Prost admitted he wanted to test more drivers, but the lack of Peugeot engines made it impossible.

"We did not test another driver this week because of the shortage of Peugeot engines.

"We have not excluded the chance that the driver might be French but we will have any nationality that will fulfil our commercial targets."
