The Hungarian Grand Prix's future, which was put in doubt after the national parliament voted to ban tobacco advertising, is now safe as the country's government has decided to make an exception with the race for being a 'world class motorsport event'.
Since its inclusion in Formula One calendar in 1986, the Hungarian race had heavily relied on the financial support of tobacco brand Marlboro, and the new law threatened the future of the Grand Prix.
However, the race, will now be safe and it will take place on its scheduled date on August 19.
"We had feared inestimable damage," Ferenc Studniczky, Hungaroring boss, said. "The official name of the race is the Marlboro Hungarian Championship and we did not have much hope of a reprieve."
