Schumacher Thankful to Ferrari Crew

Sunday December 24th, 2000

World Champion Michael Schumacher played Santa Claus for his Ferrari crew by presenting each member a Christmas present, thought to be a £1000-worth Omega watch with a personal inscription on the back, at the team's end-of-the year party.

The German, who clinched the first drivers' title for the Italian outfit in 21 years, wanted to thank everybody in the team after what he said it was a very tough year.

"This year was wonderful but also very exhausting and stressful," Schumacher said. "It was only right that every member of the team should have a present. "Because the Ferrari party was so early I told everyone they must not open their gifts straight away because it would spoil the surprise."
