Update on Montreal Strike Threat

Tuesday June 13th, 2000

Maintenance workers union members will vote tonight on a tentative agreement reached during the weekend with the Montreal Urban Community Transit Corporation. The agreement was a 3-year offer developed between the two organizations and a government negotiator.

Union members will be briefed on the agreement, then vote for or against acceptance. If the agreement is ratified by the union, Grand Prix visitors to the city of Montreal should notice no disruption of the Metro service which shuttles race fans to and from the island circuit.

Union members had earlier threatened to strike during the Grand Prix weekend, crippling Montreal during its busiest and most lucrative weekend of the year.
