Lauda Thinks Barrichello Should be Banned

Monday April 2nd, 2001

Three-times Formula One World Champion Niki Lauda believes Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello should be banned for two races after being involved in a series of crashes.

"Such accidents can be bad luck," Lauda, now a chief adviser with the Jaguar team, said after local hero Barrichello crashed into the back of Ralf Schumacher's Williams at Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.

"But when such things happen so regularly, he (Barrichello) should be told: 'You are suspended for two races. Think it over'," Lauda told German television channel RTL.

Ralf Schumacher spun after touching Barrichello's car in the previous race in Malaysia. Ralf Schumacher also complained about the Brazilian's driving style.

"He (Barrichello) should be sanctioned for that," Ralf Schumacher said of Sunday's accident.

"I think he should stop trying to be as fast as my brother. He won't manage that no matter how hard he tries."
