Saturday April 7th, 2001
Today was the fifth and last day of testing this week for the Ferrari team at the Fiorano track.
The session started at 10:45am and concluded at 7:30pm, and as with friday's testing, both Luca Badoer and Michael Schumacher were on the track. The Italian driver continued the development programme of the new electronic solutions in anticipation of the new technical regulations, due to come into effect from the Spanish Grand Prix in late april.
Michael Schumacher, meanwhile, continued the preparation of the F2001 for the San Marino Grand Prix, concentrating on the tyres and aerodynamics. The changeable weather conditions allowed for a experimentation with different types of tyres in preparation for Imola.
"This week's testing has been very positive" – said Schumacher – "We worked principally on the tyres and the development of several aerodynamic solutions. I am sure that at Imola we will more competitive than in Brazil. This year the battle for the championship will be between three teams: I think Williams will be up front also at Imola."
Luca Badoer completed a total of 49 laps, of which 22 were on the short track. Michael Schumacher's lap total reached 127, with 15 on the short track. In addition, both drivers completed numerous start practices, Badoer 17 and Schumacher 4.
