Coulthard Dismisses 'Last Chance' Talks

Saturday April 14th, 2001

David Coulthard has come out fighting after talk circulated around the paddock in San Marino suggesting that this could be his last chance to win the world championship.

McLaren driver Coulthard is currently the closest driver to championship leader Michael Schumacher in the standings, but he has dismissed claims that he must produce the goods this season.

"I feel that I've got a good opportunity at McLaren," said Coulthard, who is six points behind Schumacher in the title battle.

"I don't think I'm here by accident. I think I've got here because I can do the job - but who knows what's around the corner?

"It is just another example of people wanting to put your career in a box and close the lid before you're actually at the end of your career. That's what makes it exciting."
