Albers to Test for Minardi

Tuesday April 17th, 2001

The European Minardi team announced on Tuesday F3000 driver Christijan Albers will test for them at the Mugello circuit this week.

The 22-year old Dutch, 1999 German Formula Three champion, already races for the European Minardi F3000 team this season, and he will join regular drivers Fernando Alonso and Tarso Marques.

"It was my birthday yesterday, and this is the best present I could have," Albers said. "I am very excited at the prospect of helping European Minardi at this test. I know many of the people on the team already from my time with them in Formula 3000.

"For sure, it will be a huge challenge to get to grips with the performance of a current Formula One car and hopefully provide some useful feedback to the engineers, but it's a challenge I can't wait to take on."

Minardi are expected to test at Mugello on Wednesday.
