Coulthard Reiterates WC Commitment

Saturday April 21st, 2001

Britain's David Coulthard believes his ability and the quality of his McLaren car can help him claim his first Formula One world drivers' title. "I know I can make it," Coulthard told Saturday's German daily newspaper Bild when asked how he rated his chances of winning this year's championship. "I am ready and so is my car."

Coulthard joined Ferrari's Michael Schumacher at the top of of the overall standings on 26 points when he came second in last Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix, his fourth podium finish in as many races. "Our car is good, our engine is strong," the Scot told Bild. "I know what I'm capable of. The rest is out of my hands. Why should I worry?"

The McLaren driver also denied having any personal problems with Schumacher. "People may believe that Michael and myself are enemies but that's not right," he said. "I do like him."
