Alesi and Frentzen to Shake Down Cars Before Hungary

Wednesday August 8th, 2001

Heinz Harald Frentzen and Jean Alesi will not be completely unfamiliar with their new cars in Hungary, as the two are expected to run a shakedown of their cars this coming weekend.

The drivers' switch today between the Prost and Jordan teams - whereby Frentzen has joined the French team while Alesi replaces Frentzen at Jordan - has caught both drivers without the ability to run thorough testing before their first Grand Prix in the new car.

This is due to the three-weeks testing ban imposed by the FIA this year in August, which was meant to allow all team personnel a summer break from the hectic season. However, the regulations allow a 50km shakedown run for each team, and the two teams confimed today that these will be carried out by their new drivers.

Alesi himself said, "I will only be able to do 50km in the EJ11, but it's not a big problem, though I'm keen to see what the car will do." Frentzen too said today that he will be running his allowed 50kms on Friday.
