 Newey Spurred On by Success Friday August 10th, 2001 McLaren technical director Adrian Newey hopes to turn around the team's flagging fortunes and continue his success in the sport before he takes on another challenge. Newey, who almost moved to Jaguar earlier this season, is believed to be keen to find a new challenge for his engineering skills. But despite the poor performance of the team's current car he continues to be spurred on by a success rate that is unrivalled in Formula One. "Somebody pointed out that through a ten year period when from the beginning of 1991 through to the beginning of this year, the cars I have designed won over 50% of the races," said Newey. "It's all history, and it is a record I guess I'm quite proud of. It's not a statistic to get hung up about, but I want to continue it." McLaren have won three of the 12 races so far this year, with two wins for David Coulthard and one for Mika Hakkinen, but Ferrari clearly have the upper hand. There are just 80 points remaining in the Constructors' Championship and Ferrari have a lead on McLaren of 58. That means that Ferrari need to score just seven points more than McLaren in Hungary to seal the team title.
