Japanese engine manufacturer Honda announced a long-term commitment to British American Racing at the launch of the team's new BAR004 car in Brackley on Tuesday.
Honda's head of racing technology development Toru Ogawa confirmed at the launch at the team's Brackley base that they have signed a new three-year deal to supply BAR. Honda made the announcement as BAR unveiled David Richards as the new team principal following the departure of Craig Pollock.
"We would like to thank Craig Pollock for all his support and effort over the past two years," Ogawa said. "We also wish David Richards every success in his new position. For 2002 we introduce a brand new engine - the RA002E - and on the chassis side we are strengthening our commitment with our new long-term agreement with BAR."
The news is a boost to BAR, who are supplied Honda engines along with fierce rivals Jordan. Honda had hinted they would only supply one team from 2003, so they have either changed their mind or Jordan face a battle to find a new supplier.
BAR also announced that tyre supplier Bridgestone are also ready to finalise a long-term partnership with them.
