Australian Paul Stoddart, the new owner of Minardi, says compatriot Mark Webber has a good chance of a future Formula One drive with the team.
"I think you'll find when the right circumstances come along then it's not impossible to find Mark Webber driving for an Australian-owned team," the Australian newspaper quoted the businessman as saying on Thursday.
"A year ago I almost begged Australian corporate entities to get behind Mark and sadly only a few did.
"You have to have a budget and you have to have backing. I can make it very easy and give a kid a break but there has to be some money -- F1 is frighteningly expensive."
Webber drove for Stoddart's European F3000 team last season, winning one race. He is now Benetton's test driver.
"We put on the best Olympics in the history of the Games but we can't get behind a Formula One driver. That puzzles me," Stoddart was quoted as saying.
