Fabrizio Giovanardi tested Ferrari's F1-2000 car at Vairano, Italy, on Thursday and said he enjoyed his first experience of a Formula One car.
Giovanardi, a competitor with Alfa Romeo in the FIA European Super Touring Car Championship, stepped into the breach in the absence of Ferrari's official test driver Luca Badoer.
The young driver covered 137 kilometres in a total of 38 separate runs in last year's championship-winning car.
"This was a new and enjoyable experience," Giovanardi said. "I have tried something unique in life. At the start, I was a bit nervous, but then, being a professional racing driver, everything seemed normal."
