Schumacher Suffers Trouble in Testing at Mugello

Monday February 5th, 2001

Reigning world champion Michael Schumacher experienced his first major problem with the new Ferrari F2001 car on Monday as he was restricted to just six laps in testing at the Mugello circuit.

Schumacher, who ran faultlessly at Fiorano last week, was forced to abandon testing after six laps when the F2001 experienced problems with its injection system.

Ferrari's engineers were forced to remove the engine to solve the problem and therefore decided not to resume testing. Schumacher will continue his testing duties on Tuesday.

Schumacher ran on wet tyres on Monday after heavy overnight rain at the Italian circuit and his best time of the six laps was 1:35.119.
