Problems for the New McLaren at Valencia

Wednesday February 7th, 2001

The new McLaren-Mercedes MP4-16 had a short-lived first public appearance on Wednesday as Scot David Coulthard was forced to bring the car into the pits after only ten laps.

The new McLaren, which was unveiled today at the Valencia circuit, had completed, according to the team, more than 500km behind closed doors without any problems on Monday and Tuesday, and Coulthard was expected to complete a 15-lap run around the Spanish track.

However, after only ten of the fifteen laps, the car suffered clutch problems and Coulthard was forced to put an end to the public exhibition.
