Engine Problems for Schumacher at Mugello

Thursday February 8th, 2001

Today was the fourth day of testing for the Ferrari team at Mugello, with World Champion Michael Schumacher at the wheel of the new F2001.

After the usual installation lap, the car suffered an oil leak, so the engineers decided to change the engine and reschedule the planned endurance run test. In the afternoon, the German covered a total of 35 laps, the quickest being a 1.24.660.

"At the moment I am reasonably happy with the way the development of the car is progressing," said Schumacher. "Even today, despite the odd hiccup, we have accumulated further information on its handling."

Testing continues tomorrow with Rubens Barrichello making his debut at the wheel of the F2001.
