Hakkinen Fastest Again at Valencia

Sunday February 11th, 2001

Former World Champion Mika Hakkinen was again fastest at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, on the second day of testing at the Spanish track.

Hakkinen, who topped the time sheets on Saturday with his McLaren-Mercedes, achieved a best lap of 1:13.871, only three tenths of a second off Olivier Panis' track record, and a massive six tenths in front of the team's test driver Alexander Wurz.

Jos Verstappen was third quickest at the wheel of the new Arrows A21 prototype, the Dutchman causing one of the two red flags today due to a mechanical failure. The other one was caused by Wurz's McLaren.

Brazilian Enrique Bernoldi continued working with the new Arrows A22 for the first time, setting the fourth quickest time of the day in front of the Jaguar drivers.

Both Luciano Burti and Eddie Irvine were nearly 2.5 seconds off the pace driving the Michelin-shod Jaguar R2.
