Ralf Sets the Pace at Kyalami

Sunday February 11th, 2001

German Ralf Schumacher, driving the new BMW-Williams FW23 on Michelin tyres, set the fastest time on the third day of testing at the Kyalami circuit, in South Africa, on Saturday.

Schumacher, who completed a total of 60 laps, improved on the time set by Frenchman Olivier Panis the day before driving the BAR-Honda, being exactly half a second quicker than teammate Juan Pablo Montoya.

The Colombian, who visited the track for the first time on Thursday, ended the session in front of 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, who replaced Panis at the wheel of the Bridgestone-shod BAR 003.
