Former world champion Alan Jones will wave the chequered flag at the end of the season-opening Australian Formula One Grand Prix on March 4.
"It's a great honour," the Australian, who won the title with Williams 21 years ago, was quoted as saying on the Australian Grand Prix website.
Jones said he expected to be welcoming a Ferrari or a McLaren winner at the finish in Melbourne, but hoped for Williams and new Colombian driver Juan Pablo Montoya to produce a surprise result.
"I've got a feeling that Montoya might outshine his team mate, Ralf Schumacher," he said.
"The Melbourne race has produced a few surprises and who knows what might happen this year?"
"(Canadian) Jacques Villeneuve put a Williams on pole position at his Formula One debut in Melbourne in 1996 and would have won the race but for an oil leak that forced him to slow and saw his team mate Damon Hill win."
