The new technical manager at Bridgestone Hisao Suganuma revealed on Friday that the company has decided on the tyres they will send to Australia and has admitted he feels confident for the race.
Bridgestone will be faced with its first competition for two years when Michelin joins the Formula One grid for the season-opener at Albert Park, but Suganuma believes Bridgestone will remain at the top of the sport.
"I am confident the construction we have chosen will work well in Melbourne," said Suganuma. "We tested five different compounds and different constructions, and all the teams were satisfied with the tyres chosen."
David Coulthard's Bridgestone-shod McLaren successively broke the lap record in recent testing at the Spanish track of Valencia, and his lap time was almost four seconds faster than the best lap set at the 2000-spec tyre test in May last year.
