Whitmarsh Concerned Over McLaren Performance

Friday February 16th, 2001

One of McLaren's top bosses, Martin Whitmarsh, has expressed concerns over reliability issues facing the team as they prepare for the Australian Grand Prix on March 4.

The managing director, however, believes the team will have enough time to find a solution, and said that behind the teething problems the new MP4-16 is a promising car.

"It's early days yet for the new car, but we were disappointed that we experienced a few reliability issues which we intend to address before the first race in Australia," said Whitmarsh.

"Overall, however, we were not disappointed by the car's competitiveness."

The team has just sixteen days left to ensure that the reliability issues are resolved before the first race of the season in Melbourne.
