Jaguar Vows: It's Not Over

Friday June 1st, 2001

The Jaguar team have responded to McLaren, who earlier today announced technical director Adrian Newey had the intention of extending his contract with them for another three years after the current one expired in August 2002.

Jaguar announced this morning they had signed Newey from McLaren starting next year, but the Woking outfit released a statement in which the 42-year technical director confirmed he is staying with his current team. However, Jaguar said the issue is not yet finished, as they claim the Briton had already signed a contract with them.

"Jaguar Racing signed a contract with Adrian Newey in good faith," Jaguar said in a statement issued minutes ago. "In light of this afternoon’s statement from McLaren International it is, therefore, a matter for further discussion."
