Jaguar Racing say they are considering legal action against McLaren and their Formula One rivals' technical director Adrian Newey.
Jaguar announced on Friday that Newey, Formula One's top designer, had signed to join them from next year but only hours later McLaren issued a statement saying he would be staying.
The latest stage in the saga came on Monday when Jaguar issued another statement, saying: "Adrian Newey has a legally binding contract with Jaguar Racing and this has been confirmed by Queen's Counsel.
"As things currently stand, Adrian Newey has indicated that he will not honour that contract. We are, therefore, considering legal action against both Adrian Newey and McLaren International."
Jaguar chief Bobby Rahal was quoted in a Sunday newspaper as saying: "It's not a question of a man's word. I have been talking to Adrian for six months about this. There has been a breach of contract and we are going to defend our rights."
