A gearbox problem in his Arrows hampered Jos Verstappen's progress in today's practice for the Canadian Grand Prix, the Dutchman being forced to miss the whole morning session.
Verstappen, who finished the day in sixteenth place, could only complete an untimed lap before an oil leak forced his mechanics to fix the gearbox and, as a consequence, he missed the hour-long session. However, he was able to recover in the afternoon and was pleased with his car.
"Well this morning was a shame but I did have a very good second session," said Verstappen. "The car felt good but it could be better as there are a lot of things we can do to improve it. It's disappointing that I lost an hour of practice time as you can never get that back but I know the car will improve so that is something I can look forward to."
Enrique Bernoldi finished right behind his teammate, losing some time when he damaged his car after running over debris from Jacques Villeneuve's car. The Brazilian spent the day learning the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, and was happy with his progress.
"This is a very nice circuit," admitted Bernoldi. "It has a really good combination of fast straights and tight chicanes so it's a good challenge for me. I've spent today learning the track and steadily developing the set-up of the car and I'm happy with the progress we have made."
