Montoya and Villeneuve Warned after Tussle

Sunday June 10th, 2001

Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya and BAR's Jacques Villeneuve have been warned after almost coming to blows during the Canadian Grand Prix.

Villeneuve and Montoya clashed on Friday after mutual accusations about their driving ended in a physical scuffle at a drivers' meeting, following an incident on track during the first free practice session for the eighth round of the championship.

After the incident, race director Charlie Whiting talked to both drivers, warning of a possible ban if they continue with their tangle.

"I have spoken to both drivers and told them that if there is another little incident, one or both will watch two races from outside," said Whiting.

Montoya and Villeneuve will start today's race alongside each other after qualifying on Saturday in ninth and 10th places respectively.
