Ralf Schumacher is on the brink of extending his contract with BMW-Williams, the German driver revealed on Wednesday.
"We will get together and talk about the last details," Schumacher told a news conference in Bonn on Wednesday. He said he might sign during this weekend's European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.
The younger Schumacher brother, who has become a target for several top teams after posting his first two wins this year, has a contract with Williams until 2002. He did not say how long the new contract would be. Willi Weber, manager of the two Schumacher brothers, has said Ralf had received several offers including one from Ferrari.
"We have said already that we have been talking to other teams," Schumacher confirmed.
The Williams driver beat the Ferrari of triple world champion Michael into second place in the battle of brothers at the Canadian Grand Prix earlier this month, but he said he did not expect to win at the Nurburgring on Sunday.
"The Nurburgring is a difficult circuit for us because we are a bit behind in terms of aerodynamics," he said. "If the tyres function properly we could maybe finish in the top three."
