McLaren driver David Coulthard is planning to give Mercedes-Benz the perfect present on their return to Germany with a win in the European Grand Prix.
Coulthard, who is currently 18 points behind Michael Schumacher in the standings, has an impressive record at the Nurburgring and he wants another podium to boost his championship hopes.
"It is always an exciting race at the Nurburgring," said Coulthard. "There are a number of real overtaking opportunities and also the weather is often unpredictable and as a result can have a major effect on the race.
"I have a consistent record at the event, having finished on the podium in four of the past five European Grands Prix, which I am aiming to continue and improve on this year."
McLaren boss Ron Dennis shares Coulthard's enthusiasm and drive for the event and he is eyeing a win to get the Woking-based team back on track after a disappointing Canadian Grand Prix.
Dennis said: "The team will be focused on achieving a good result at the home Grand Prix for Mercedes-Benz. We always arrive at a race weekend with the intention of winning and this is the primary target for the Nurburgring."
