 Nurburgring to Undergo Improvements Thursday June 21st, 2001 The Nurburgring circuit, which will host the European Grand Prix this weekend, is set to undergo a $6 million facelift after this year's race. The changes to the German track, which are expected to be finalised before next year's Grand Prix, will see the removal of the Castrol S complex, the right-left turn at the end of the straight which has been the cause of several incidents in the past due to its tightness. The project will also include the introduction of new grandstands which will allow another 10,000 seats in a new section called the Mercedes Stadium. The European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring is tipped to be one of the races that could make way for the future Russian Grand Prix at Moscow, and the improvements are thought to be a way to guarantee its continuity in the Formula One calendar. Nurburgring's current contract expires at the end of the 2004 season.
