Mika Hakkinen has spoken of his hopes for victory at the European Grand Prix this weekend and vowed to continue to fight teammate David Coulthard.
Hakkinen made no attempt to hide his ambition for a top placing, spurred on by his recent success at Montreal, even if it means hampering the title chances of Coulthard.
"The past helps and I am happy to come here," said Hakkinen. "I feel it (Montreal) was a small changing point for me, it was definitely a good feeling to spray the champagne. I think it could be the turnaround.
"I am confident that if I score victories and they score points then nine races from now it could be quite different. The team wants me to win and I want to give them the best opportunity. Maybe the victories will start coming this weekend."
Hakkinen has scored only eight points so far this season, and he lies 50 behind championship leader Michael Schumacher and 32 behind Coulthard.
