Sunday Warm-Up - European GP

Sunday June 24th, 2001

Rubens Barrichello clocked the fastest time of Sunday's warm-up session, outpacing teammate Michael Schumacher ahead of today's European Grand Prix. Barrichello's time was already faster than the overall fastest race lap record around the Nurburgring, to confirm predictions of a quick race.

But Schumacher and younger brother Ralf continued their home soil rivalry to finish second and third. Eddie Irvine put in an encouraging performance for Jaguar to claim fourth fastest ahead of David Coulthard, who was just less than half a second off the lead pace in fifth.

Ralf Schumacher's teammate Juan Pablo Montoya proved Williams will be a force to be reckoned with by claiming the sixth fastest time. Coulthard's McLaren teammate Mika Hakkinen was eighth fastest and Nick Heidfeld and Kimi Raikkonen continued to show that Sauber are nicely on the pace by filling out the top ten.

Both the British American Racing drivers, Jacques Villeneuve and Olivier Panis, were foiled by the chicane and ended well off the pace.
