Taylor was Not Forced Back, Claims Dennis

Wednesday June 27th, 2001

McLaren chief Ron Dennis has said there was no foul play involved in the return of designer Stephen Taylor from Sauber. Taylor has rejoined McLaren after a short spell as chief designer at Sauber and Dennis has reacted angrily to reports suggesting that he coaxed the Briton back.

"He applied for a position in Sauber which was a position of chief designer, he was offered the job, he accepted the job, served his notice with the team, went to Sauber, and during the two to four week first period he expressed some concerns as to whether he had made the right decisions or not," Dennis said.

"I was more than happy then and now to offer him a position back in our company and with that in mind I spoke to Peter Sauber and said if it fits with your own plans let me know and he will have his job back, if it doesn't fit with your own plans then I will respect the contractual relationship that you have with him.

"It was reported in some way that I was going back and trying to induce someone to break the contract, but that is not the case."
