Taylor in Surprising Move to Jordan

Friday June 29th, 2001

Former Sauber chief designer Stephen Taylor has made a surprising move by joining the Jordan team, it was announced on Friday.

Taylor, who had joined Sauber earlier this year to replace Argentine Sergio Rinland, left the Hinwil-based outfit earlier this month and was expected to return to McLaren after Ron Dennis confirmed he had offered him a job at the Woking team.

However, in a surprising twist of events, Taylor announced ahead of the French Grand Prix that he will be joining Jordan's composite department.

"I'm greatly looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that such a forward thinking team as Jordan can offer," Taylor said. "Composites is my field of expertise and this is the area within Formula One that I really enjoy in which I would like to further my career and knowledge."

"Stephen's broad experience will add tremendously to our existing engineering team within the composites field and we look forward to welcoming him at Jordan," said head of engineering Tim Holloway.
