Record Crowd Tipped for Australian GP

Saturday March 3rd, 2001

A record crowd is expected at Sunday's Australian Formula One Grand Prix after Michael Schumacher secured pole position, organisers said.

A record 124,000 watched last year's season-opening race at Melbourne's Albert Park and Australian Grand Prix chief executive John Harden said that mark could be broken this weekend with the two Ferraris on the front row of the grid.

A record Saturday crowd of 110,000 watched world champion Schumacher snatch pole from Brazilian teammate Rubens Barrichello in qualifying.

"With the Ferraris on the front row and the weather looking so good, we're now looking forward to a great final day," said Harden.
