Zonta Wants a Jordan Drive Next Year

Thursday May 3rd, 2001

Jordan test driver Ricardo Zonta has said he wants a race drive with the team next year or he could be forced to look elsewhere to achieve his aims.

Brazilian Zonta signed for Jordan after being dropped by British American Racing at the end of last season. Now he is keen for a quick return to Grand Prix racing and is only half-sure of getting that at Jordan.

"My first experience with F1 was with Jordan and I am very happy being back here and I hope I can race for them," said Zonta. "They have given me good options for the future.

"I tried to guarantee to race here but it depends on a number of factors. I would say there is a 50 percent chance with Jordan and maybe I have another chance to go with another team as well.

"Next year, if I don't drive for Jordan I need to drive for another team. I must be back."

Zonta turned down a race drive with the Prost team after this season's Brazilian Grand Prix. They have since signed Luciano Burti and Zonta is using this season with Jordan to develop his driving skills for a return in 2002.
