BAR Protest Raikkonen's Fourth Place

Sunday May 13th, 2001

The British American Racing Formula One team protested on Sunday against the fourth place finish of Sauber rival Kimi Raikkonen at the Austrian Grand Prix.

A statement issued by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) said the official race classification was therefore confirmed only for the top three places pending the appeal.

BAR believe Raikkonen illegally overtook Luciano Burti's Prost while the race was under yellow flags.

If the race stewards rule that Raikkonen did overtake Burti under yellow flags he could receive a 25-second penalty, which would drop him to fifth and promote BAR's Olivier Panis to fourth.
