The McLaren team have created a new working group in a bid to bring together their other two partners, Mercedes-Benz and Ilmor, and create one competitive formula for success.
Speaking in Stuttgart, McLaren team boss Ron Dennis hinted that he had been concerned that it was difficult for the team to compete with a three-pronged separate attack against World Champions Ferrari, where everything is under one roof.
Dennis said that they had decided to form a technical steering committee. This is effectively a new management team, created to focus on the Formula One team's technical performance and help make it more competitive.
The members of the committee are McLaren technical director Adrian Newey, Mario Illien of engine makers Ilmor, Hans-Peter Kollmeier of engine suppliers Mercedes-Benz and McLaren managing director Martin Whitmarsh. Whitmarsh is the chairman of the committee.
"Their job is to get more from the resources at their disposal to take us forward to a new technical level," said Dennis.
Mercedes-Benz motorsport director Norbert Haug said: "We will be giving them the money and they will report to us. We are giving them the tools to get the job done as well as possible."
