Jackie Stewart Receives Knighthood

Friday November 23rd, 2001

Three time World Champion and BRDC chairman Jackie Stewart was knighted today at Buckingham Palace, London, England.

62-year old Stewart received the honours from Prince Charles, for his services to British motor racing.

Charles made the presentation with an eye patch, after he injured his eye while pruning a tree, and Stewart later revealed that the prince "said I was very brave to be knighted by him with a sword - I suppose he was referring to his recent injury."

Sir Stewart, who won the Formula One World Championship in 1969, 1971 and 1973, joins Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham and Frank Williams as great Formula One figures to receive the highest honour of the British royal court.
