 New Toyota will Not be Tested in 2001 Monday October 29th, 2001 Toyota driver Allan McNish believes the team will fail to meet plans to run their 2002 challenger before a testing ban is imposed on them in November, forcing their programme back in line with their Grand Prix rivals. The team had controversially planned to run through the winter testing ban, claiming that they were not governed by the rules. But after reaching a compromise and agreeing to stop in 15th November, it seems slow development means they will not be able to run next year's car before testing resumes in January. "It looks like it will be the beginning of the year," said McNish of testing the new car. "We will probably launch it before the beginning of the year, but we won't be able to run it before the testing ban." McNish will have to continue with the current test car, which has been around five seconds off the pace in recent tests, and wait for the new year before they can show their real pace. "I am always glad to get into a new car," said McNish. "It is frustrating not to have it now, because this car has served its purpose, and we have done pretty much all we wanted with it."
