Gavin Fisher Extends Contract with Williams

Monday October 29th, 2001

Williams announced today they have extended their contract with chief designer Gavin Fisher for an undisclosed long-term period.

Fisher's contract with the team was about to expire at the end of this year, and the Briton was reportedly sought after by both Jaguar and BAR.

The 37-year-old joined Williams as a designer in 1989. He was appointed chief designer in 1997, replacing Adrian Newey who left for McLaren.

Williams said Fisher had signed a new long-term contract with the team and changes would be made within the aerodynamics department after Willis's departure.

"Gavin very happily has signed for a number of years, quite a few more years," team boss Frank Williams told Reuters at the Williams factory.
